Thank you for your interest in the Lommel Youth and Educational Meeting Center in Belgium. Every visit so far has supported the work of the Volksbund Deutsche Kriegsgräberfürsorge e. V. (German War Graves Commission).
The JBS Lommel has shaped the Volksbund's educational work since the first youth camp in 1953. Since then, the Volksbund and its educational work have changed again and again and developed further in line with social developments. The building in Lommel has undergone a number of changes and at the same time it has become clear what challenges such a building entails.
A conversion of the JBS Lommel is imminent. At the beginning of 2025, the Volksbund will begin restructuring and remodeling the building.
This will result in the following changes for guests:
- The operation of the JBS Lommel will be discontinued on 31.12.2024. From 01.01.2025, it will no longer be possible to offer multi-day programs with overnight stays.
- Guided tours as day programs will continue to be offered and possible. Please send inquiries and reservations to lommel@volksbund.de or use the reservation form.
- Café Hof ten Vrede is still open for guests.
- Planning for the renovation in Lommel will start at the beginning of 2025 and is expected to continue until 2026. We will keep you informed about the status of the renovation work on the website.
- After the reopening as a place of learning and remembrance, we will present the new concept with an educational program and permanent exhibition here.
- We offer accommodation and programs for multi-day stays at the nearby JBS Ysselsteyn in the Netherlands. The JBS Golm on Usedom in Germany and the JBS Niederbronn in France are also available for your stays with school and youth groups.
We would be delighted if you would visit us again at one of our three other youth meeting and educational centers before then!
