We are Lea and Luise, two ESC volunteers at the German war gravesite in Lommel, Belgium. For some time now, we have been working on completing our own podcast series under the title “Women At War”.

But what exactly do we imagine under this heading? Because, of course, this is a topic that has been researched many times in the meantime and has been discussed and dealt with in countless documentaries. Therefore, our aim is not to share any spectacular new facts, but first and foremost we would simply like to talk about a topic that interests us personally and share our thoughts on it with you.

When you hear the term war, the first thing that comes to mind is usually men joining the army and fighting as soldiers for their country. But how did women actually act in warfare in their respective times? What were their tasks, their experiences – in short: their role in the war? These and other questions will be answered in the coming episodes, at least as far as we can.

You can already find the entire podcast series on Spotify or YouTube.

The series will consist of a total of five thematic areas that build on each other chronologically:

26.01.2022 As a soldier’s wife in the Thirty Years’ War

02.02.2022 Double Identity – Women in the Coalition Wars

09.02.2022 Between Work and Family – Everyday Life in the First World War

16.02.2022 Of female soldiers, concentration camp guards and prisoners – The many faces of woman in the Second World War

23.02.2022 At the mercy of boundless violence – Women in modern wars

The entire podcast series is in german!
